How will the fishing be in Montana in 2023? Many factors influence good trout fishing and having an adequate supply of clean, cold water is paramount. Basin-by-basin snowpack, and more importantly, how quickly snow melts, is the most important clue to how our rivers will fish during the summer season. Low river flows are becoming more common as a changing climate alters precipitation amounts and seasonal warming. Snow is also melting earlier than it used to, and this can frequently lead to fishing restrictions and closures in the heat of the summer.
